(New Orleans, La.) - The Breeders Sales Company of Louisiana, Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of the Louisiana Thoroughbred Breeders Association, has secured dates for the 2013 Yearling Sale. The sale will be held Tuesday, September 24, 2013 at the Ike Hamilton Expo Center in West Monroe.
“This is a very good sale,” said Roger Heitzmann, secretary/treasurer for the Louisiana Thoroughbred Breeders Association. “This is the highest quality of yearlings in recent years with nearly 200 consigned to our sale.”
A recent story in the Daily Racing Form noted that, “there has been a distinct power shift in the Southwest breeding market since the advent of gaming at tracks in the region. Louisiana has risen to the forefront with slot machines helping the state build an incentive program that paid out more than $25 million in 2012.”
“We have one of, if not the, strongest programs in the country,” said Heitzmann, “and because of that we’ve had an influx of new stallions, we’ve had better mares entering our program, and therefore, we’re producing better horses. This is reflected in our 2013 yearling sale.”
Daren English, who is serving as sales director, is equally pleased with this year’s sale. “There are some excellent prospects that are going to attract buyers throughout the United States,” said English. “We have foals from 93 stallions with pedigrees that match some of the top performing racehorses. The breeders consigned good stock to this sale.”
All accredited Louisiana bred foals of 2012 auctioned in this sale are eligible for a Bayou State Bonus. Any such colt/gelding sold in this sale winning the 2014 Louisiana Champions Day Juvenile, the 2015 Crescent City Derby, and the 2015 A.L. “Red” Erwin Memorial Stakes will receive a $100,000 bonus at the completion of the final race. Any such filly sold in this sale winning the 2014 Louisiana Champions Day Lassie, the 2015 Crescent City Oaks, and the 2015 Elge Rasberry Memorial Stakes will receive a $100,000 bonus at the official completion of the final race.
The bonus paid will be added to the earnings of the winning horse and paid to the owner of the horse at that time after the official completion of the final race.
The Breeders Sales Company of Louisiana mails the catalogue and their website will have an interactive catalogue and a PDF version that can be downloaded once the consignments are complete. The sale will be web-cast on the website.
